Equality under the law is one of the foundation stones of democracy and if the politicians think for one moment they can merely repay the reimbursement for expenses they obtained by fraud, they are mistaken.
When our legislators become corrupt they do so knowingly but cocooned by the erroneous belief that they, unlike you and I, are above any serious punishment under the law.
Indeed the antics of Jack Straw, Justice Minister, and Martin, the Speaker of the House, in trying to conceal the crimes of their fellow MPS’ almost beggars belief.
When the Justice Minister, it is revealed, was also on the take it becomes apparent that their feverish attempt to get the High Court to ban the publishing of MPS’ Expenses was not merely to protect their colleagues but also themselves.
Any private company who was embezzled by its employees would call in the police and this is what must happen now.
Would you or I be allowed to repay what we’d stolen and leave with our pension pot intact? Would not the CPS be lamenting a despicable betrayal of trust and apply for the confiscation of our property under The Proceeds of Crime legislation?
If any of these rogue MPS, including Jack Straw, Ed Ball, Yvette Cooper, Hazel Blears, Alistair Darling, Alan Johnson and each and every one of the others is not prosecuted under the law, then democracy itself is in grave peril.
The must be arrested, interviewed under caution and where there is evidence of dishonesty resulting in a pecuniary advantage, sent for trial.
If the CPS and the Police refuse to take action, then their fitness for purpose must be questioned. These MP’s are not our masters, they are our public servants and are answerable to you and I.
